Hi there, i just bought a 1969 westy. It has everything in the interior but the sink and stool. What is the correct sink and cabinet that belongs in there? Are there other years that work as well. I am new to westys so any info would be great!

When I was growing up we had a 69 Westy and I remember that the sink/icebox had a top/sink that was made out of a white plastic material that turned yellow pretty bad (and this was when it was only 15 years old). The table top of the 69 also swung out onto a triangle-shaped prop.

The '71 I have has a stainless steel top which is much better wearing. The table swings out on funny hinges that eleminates the need for the triangular prop to hold it up. I believe they used this icebox design up to 73, but all the 72's and 73's have a different pattern on the woodgrain formica, so it might not be a perfect match for a 69.

I'm not sure what a 70 looks like- if it's the stainless top or the white plastic top.. Of course, many of the white plastic ones probably went bad and were replaced by stainless topped ones by now, maybe even moreso in the sun-dried southwest so it's hard to tell what's original.

When you say stool, do you mean the rear-facing seat behind the driver's seat or the freestanding stools?

The backward facing seat seems to have two kinds.. One with a lower, thick back (like on a 69), with a cartouche-shaped oval hole for the map cubby, and the 71-style with a thinner, higher back. which just has a wide open topped map cubby. It seems to me that the thinner, higher back went in conjuntion with the stainless steel topped icebox and tabletop without the triangular prop.

I have the feeling you can probably use the low-thick backed backwards seat with the stainless top icebox just fine. I think some of the pictures on that john-perry.com website might be a little inaccurate, since they have one showing a '71 with the earlier style low seat and the stainless icebox. I'm pretty sure my 71 westy is all original, partly since it hasn't moved under it's own power since the 1980's and I can't see why anything would have been changed.

If you mean the free-standing stool, I've got one, but ya can't have it.. Mine all mine!

You could use the icebox and sink (which I think are seperate) from a 74-75, but the woodgrain would look funny, and you'd sacrifice the backward's facing seat if you want a sink.

Anyone else want to chime in? I'd love to know if I'm remotely right or just talking out of my A$$ (for personal knowledge, I'd love to know what 70 icebox looks like if it's white topped or stainless steel)

'69 SO67 Westfalia; a 1970 would have a steel top for the sink/icebox, with a white flip down table.

1970 Icebox/sink - steel. Also notice the lack of the small "what-not" drawer.

Ah yes. I remember that small drawer.. Is the icebox bigger on a 69 than a 70? . Are all the fold down tables on the steel topped iceboxes the kind that hang on the hinges?

Is there any explanation as to why they changed the design of the rearward facing seat's back? I thought it was because of the change in the fold down table design, but it seems like that wasn't a factor, since 70 has the old style seat with the new style icebox.

I have extra stools, jump seats, rear seats... if you're near San Diego, let me know.

my 69 has this sink in it. and it's correct for my bus...must be a late model thing cause my wiring has 69 elements and 70 elements too

hang on.. that's a little different from the 69 sinktop.. What I remember was a solid plastic sort of material that yellowed and cracked pretty bad in the sun.

In that picture it looks like it's the same sort of formica that the flip table is made from. Do you have a picture of what that sink looks like with the table top flipped out?

If some 69's had the steel top then I'm guessing they noticed the problems with the white top material. I'm not sure about the splitties, but something like a 66 or 67 didn't even have a sink, right?
