| Just curious, is it possible to convert a hydraulic brake chassis into cable breaks ?? I´m thinking of building a typ 60 replica and I want to have cable breaks. Any help would be appreciated ! |

No it is not. The cable brakes have four extra tubes in the tunnel for the cables to travel through. That alone would require a major amount of work.
Alternatively you could search for a cable brake chassis and use that under your body. Cable brakes were available on cars well into the late oval/early big window era IIRC. |

Thank you for the information.
yes, the two tubes run to the left and right side of the framehead and pop out, so I would have to weld in these two tubes and that would be it ?
The two cables for the rear handbrake are the same like on the hydraulic brake chassis ?
It´s not so easy to find an original cable brake chassis.
Does anybody have pictures to compare the inner tubes of a cable chassis and an hydraulic chassis ? |

There are two tubes that run from the front of the frame head to the rear transmission horns as well since all four cables met at the front. There is a bracket inside the framehead for the tension spring and the emergency brake and pedal brake actuator is unique to cable brakes as well. Of course the pedal cluster is different as well.
You would nee to open up the entire bottom of the tunnel and frame head to get this all welded in properly. There is a lot of tension on the tubes when the brakes are applied so some fly-ass tube welding job could mean brake failure.
Get a Bently manual and take a look at the components and how the system works. You would be far better off to find a cable brake chassis. They are out there if you have the patience to look. |

@nlorntson & Boom: thank you guys ! I really appreciate it.The pictures are terrific! It´s not so often to see the inside of the main tunnelframe !
So I´d better look for a cable chassis. I admit it´s the easiest way to go. |

actually it doesnt look like it would be that difficult to make one.
I am not aware of what it costs for an original but why not just use what ya got _________________ Ovals are Overrated.....Click to view image

I would agree with nlorntson, trying to adapt a "juice brake" chassis for cable brakes would be a huge undertaking and not likely worth it. The tubes must be very, very strong to take the stress of the cables, and a failure could be catastrophic. _________________ John Henry
