|
|
Sorry for flooding the gallery with images... Check them out and let me know what you think. I'm not the owner. I personally think it's pretty cool. There are a few cut down busses nearby me and I bet they're fun to drive and own. But if I had a choice, I wouldn't cut the roof off of a barndoor. There is the potential that the roof was completely rusted through and it was an operation done to save the bus's life, in which case I'm all for it. Mostly what I'm curious about is - can anyone here tell what kind of barndoor this was before it was cut down? Is there any way it could have been a 23 window?
I'd better go leave a note that the Barndoor Mafia is now aware of its prescence |

I don't know much about barndoors, but the dash would suggest that it is just an early deluxe. _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

QWKDTSN - it appears that you have stumbled upon Brendan's bus. Let me guess, did you see this one too?

Well, yes, actually it is fun to drive. We have less invested in it than some guys have in rims and tires and we definitely get more reactions per block than you can count. If you guys were REALLY good Bus detectives, you could determine EXACTLY what the Bus is. All of the answers are right there before you. You just have to REALLY be a Bus Pervert, like me and my closest friends.
Yeah, there are some others running around the beach areas here in San Diego but I can guarantee you that this was the first of any of them that you will see. We cut the roof off this thing 10 years ago already. There is a guy on my street, 2 blocks from my house, that liked the "Roadster" so much that he wanted to buy it. When I wouldn't sell it to him, he went out and made his own. Of course, his is nothing in comparison, seeing as his is just a '67. I'm sure he likes it a lot but he wouldn't know the difference between a pre 1953 "Large License Light" Barndoor and a 1967. Seemingly the same but there is a small 14 year difference between them. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

I haven't seen that second bus, no! I live over on Tourmaline St next to the Mormon temple. I am glad to hear that no barndoors were destroyed in the making of the bus - that just makes it cooler to me. Is anyone here aware of a white cut down split bus around PB? I used to see it all the time. There is a cut down bay window that I've seen a couple of times, but he left the windowframes on the doors and put in a rollcage around the cockpit. Interesting.
Anyway, cool! Glad to hear all of this! I want to be a bus pervert too |

Looks to me to be a '61 or earlier Panel.
The tail lights, cargo doors, and a lack of seat mounts on the cargo floor lead me here...... |

Greg knows his shit! He is VERY VERY warm, in fact it was a '60 Panel. The cargo doors came from a different Bus which opened the window to late 1961 Panel. The cargo floor with no seat hold downs and no rear heater tube makes it a Panel, no other model. The dash with the sharp edged speedo pod and the long "crooked" shifter makes it post 1959. So, the moral of the story is this...
Take a junky 1960 Panel and cut the roof off
then put a 1952 Barndoor Decklid on it
Add a set of early Deluxe Trim
Add a pre 1958 Front Bumper
Shave the bullets
Paint it something close to Sealing Wax Red and Chestnut Brown
you will fool more people than you could imagine that you cut the roof off of a Barndoor Deluxe. It's like people see all of the "major" components of Barndoor Deluxe and they just jump to conclusions. We did it to piss off the purists, of whom we are at heart, and we are just poking fun at them and ourselves all in one. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Everett is right. I am lying. The truth about the Roadster will never REALLY be known. I must have been confused since I have heard so many stories as to its history. And as far as being worried about the Barndoor Mafia, I guess you have a point. However, Bobby Hollywood, the Mafias main Hitman, is like my brother so I don't think I have to worry about the family offing me, or should I??? _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage
