Michael Womack (vwwomack) has straight copied our offset bus spring plates and is now selling them on the Samba, We don't mind when people use our ideas but really come on Michael change the name at least try to make it look like you had some input into the design what you’re doing is just lazy and tasteless. _________________ I like the smell of leaded gas. |

Hey Nate, my spindles done for my Binz yet?
Tryin' to fit them 19's on the front is a little hard with no spindles.
I think I remember you giving all the dimensions and stuff for those spring plates. Your fault I guess, shouldn't have done that. I suppose? _________________ -Corey

Im sorry but they dont look identical to me, they have notches in them for going lower, and the kick up is cut differently. Unfortunately they are very simple to make, and can be made by anyone who is a competent welder. to trademark/patent/or copyright them in any way would be difficult.
Im not on either side of the fence, just commenting.
youre right it is kinda funny that both ads have the same photography though. _________________ drive your split. |

The thing that really kills me is the open slot on the middle bolt hole there is no reason to have it, except because our early plates (the copied version) we cut on a tracer torch witch needs to be able to run around the part with out stopping. see photo

yeah, maybe he is using the same equipment and therefore also needs to be able to trace around the entire piece? I dont know.
there will always be competition for parts in any given marketplace. Your offset plates are a VERY smart idea and very simple, which makes them a very appealing item to make by others. Because of their simplicity, there isnt a whole lot of possible changes another builder could make to make them more unique.
Its frustrating, but given that yours are more affordable, and you have a long reputation of quality suspension parts, I wouldnt be too worried.
you might have to start TIG welding them to make them all pretty like Mike's though!
again, I have not purchased from either builder, just neutral commentation and observation _________________ drive your split. |

I am good sport competition is fine with me and I don't mind him selling them on the samba but I would appreciate him disguising the ripoff a little better.
As for the slot I doubt that he ever had a panagraph machine, and we a use a superior welding process than tig.
tell me these are not sick welds

I see your point nate but instead of taking it public why not hit him up on pm
Mike's welds are by far the cleanest I've seen on hand made vw parts
Mike is a good guy
competition is always good for the consumer as well keep the monopoly out of the market |

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Those are not "sick" welds. These look 100x better
Also, I talked to a couple people over the weekend at Bulli Brigade who run your plates and say their tires are toed in too much because the spring plates don't allow them to slide the axle far enough back. I don't know what the deal is with that, but i've never heard of anybody saying that about Womack's plates.
Yea I agree the design is super similar, but that's like complaining about somebody else making narrowed beams the same way you do. Why don't you copyright the design if it bothers you so much?
Why didn't you start this thread 6 months ago when he put the ad up? _________________

I still say its tasteless and it took a while for it to get the best of me.
I guess I did ask you to tell me they weren't sick welds.
As for the toe in we did find that one of our welding jigs was a hair short and we fixed it. So put the word out any body with toe problems can send their plates in and get a new set for free. _________________ I like the smell of leaded gas. |

Womacks welds are the best I've seen. His shit looks machined. Plus seeing his work in my hands is unreal. Doing work daily on race cars is a plus for him building shit for people. Some times its not a copy but the simplest way. _________________ Ost Kuste. |

first off, you are a fucking douche for posting this.
second, i watched him figure that shit out on his garage floor. he then built a set, tried them on a bus, made changes that needed to be made, and builds his current sets off of the modified originals. HE figured this shit out on his own just as you did. it seems to me that you may be a little green with envy.... _________________ OST KÜSTE |

Will do. I think it would be a good idea to put it in your ad as well, just in case people don't know what's going on.

Back to this again.
I found this picture in the samba gallery of some of your plates. These welds flat out look like shit.
Also, as you may have noticed, Womack changed his ad to say his plates are now MIG welded. If you think those aren't up to par, i'd say they still look better than yours

Here's a picture of the first plates Womack made. See that notch isn't there? The notch was put there probably for the same reason yours was. He doesn't do his own laser cutting.
