Found this green wire unplugged near my fuel injectors. From what I could gather I think its possibly for the 02 sensor but can't find anywhere to plug it in. What am I missing?

Certainly someone on TheSamba knows where this wire goes on the '82 aircooled engine.
But a lot of members are getting siphoned off to facebook etc cuz there's more action there I suppose.
So theSamba is getting quieter.
But you can't search technical issues on Facebook like you can on TheSamba.
Maybe follow the wire as best you can - and post a wider-view pic showing where it appears to come from? _________________

Screw facebook, wait until someone here responds with your answers, and study the Bentley Book on your own.
Good luck. _________________ TP in the Pack (I am a cyclist)

98% sure that is the oxygen sensor to ECU lead. Disconnected puts the engine ECU in open loop. Not always a bad thing.
Somewhere before the cat or screwed into the cat inlet you should see the oxygen sensor and the female lead that connects to your green lead in question. _________________ ☮️ |

I have a 80 air cooled, Ill look, but I dont recall having that wire. Is it a California model? The plug looks like it goes in the distributed judging by the curve? _________________ Enjoy the ride....

Identical to my 84’s O2 sensor wire. Trace the wire from the sensor up to locate the female end. |

If you don't have a stock exhaust you catalytic converter may have disappeared along with your O2 sensor.
Not sure if Federal engines used a cat and/or had an O2 sensor, if they did not maybe someone swapped a Federal engine into a California van? |

I didn't see any obvious "hits" searching rubber boot PN online.
Sure looks like an O2 sensor wire.
If boot can be slid down wire away from connector (wd40 would help here), see if wire has a shield.
With the correct ECU pinout and volt meter, one could confirm if that's an O2 connector wire.
