Is it possible for a leaking head gasket to cause an h2o pump to start leaking from the weep hole(to much back pressure)? The reason I ask is all the sudden my h2o pump stated leaking and at the same time I'm gettin' that familiar odor/smoke from the tail pipe along with some moisture. Also the pump does not appear to be very old. By the way it's a 1.9l, 2wd, 4 spd, GL. _________________ 91 CARAT |

Are you sure that the engine is burning the coolant, and not just dripping onto the hot muffler or header? |

I can see it dripping out of the weep hole as well as smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Mind you that the smoke from the pipe is not that much, it's rather minimal, but is there none the less. _________________ 91 CARAT |

Could it be some freakish type of coincidence/cruelty?! _________________ 91 CARAT |

Take off the coolant tank cap, that will take all of the pressure off the cooling system.
If you have a small leak, you can often make it home by simply loosening the pressure cap enough that the motor wont make cooling system pressure. |

Maybe that's good to make it home, but if the water pump weep hole is dripping, park it once you get there. That's the early warning system for the water pump; it's bearing is getting ready to go.
Look at the bright side: you get to take care of two big jobs and you only have to drain the coolant once. Imagine how pissed you'd be if you just wrapped up the head seal job, and a week later the pump decides to go. _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

Tencent, very true (gotta' take the good with the bad). I still find it odd that they coincide with each other, timing wise. _________________ 91 CARAT |
