It's perfectly safe to eliminate all the tin if the engine is going into a Gyrocopter!

Since your engine is open in the trunk it seems reasonable to eliminate the top tin?

I have the tin over the heat exchangers removed. You have to cut around the holes though so you can still secure it to the head. I also removed the front tin but had to make a holder for the throttle cable.
