Hey everyone, im building a 1914 turbo fuel injected engine for my bug. Which of these two options should i pursue:

both of these would utilize the CB perf engine kit:
http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1781

1) Build a complete longblock engine kit from Cb performance BY MYSELF, using appropriate books. This kit would include all machining and balancing.

2)Pay ~$600 for a reputable shop (Painter's Grinding) to build the same complete longblock engine kit. They wouldnt do any machining because it would already be done.

What should I do?

Do you have the space, tools and knowledge to build it correctly?

Skip the CB kit, use Megasquirt and put the extra money towards more displacement. Twisted Evil

I know, but if he's buing the engine parts from CB I assume that's where the FI hardware is coming from as well. I could be wrong...

I got a lot of satisfaction building my engine myself.
Books and websites such as the samba helped tremendously.
This site http://www.chircoestore.com/catalog/articles.php?tPath=12 also was helpful.

Good luck.

p.s. I have heard good things about painters grinding

Sure... you can take a grinder to them. You can also use an adjustable wrench to assemble it.
