I am replacing the running boards on my 1965 beetle. The boards that are on it now are kind of low-quality repros. My question is what is the correct trim width for a 65 model. Wolfsburg west says the wide trim (30mm) is correct thru sometime in 1966 so that would be correct for my 65. But J-Bugs says the wide only went thru 1964, and that my 65 should have narrower trim (18mm). I would prefer to have the size that is factory correct. Anyone know which one is correct for a 65?

My early '66 (built August '65) has the wide trim.

Volkswagen did the change from the 33mm to the smaller 19mm-trim with the beginning of model year 1967, ergo September 1966. It's also the start of the smaller body-trim and a lot of further mods...
