Does anyone have any pics of how the dash cover is mounted to the dash? I know there was a factory bracket/brace that helped support the cover. Does everyone use this or just attach the cover?

What are you referring to as "dash cover"....

Most dashes are part of hood and people usually just cut or drill dash to preference to add instrumentation or switches.... If you are using a "dash plate" to supplement original dash in buggy, you are on your own as how to fasten it....

My "panel" is a piece of 1/8 polished aluminum and it is held at each corner with 1/4-20 stainless flathead Phillips screws into "J" nuts slipped onto the original dash through holes where previous owner butchered dash...

Original Manxes (pre Manx 2) had an ABS plastic dash. It was secured to the dash frame by truss head machine srews aross the top of the frame and by the windshield mount bolts on each side.

On Manx 2s the dash was fiberglass and bonded to the back edge of the hood.

The replcement dash Meyers Manx Inc sells is fiberglass and attached the same way the Manx 2 dash is.

Do you have a Manx 1 or Manx 2? There are illustrated instructions how to mount the different types.

BL3Manx I would like to get a copy of the instructions for a manx1 if you don't mind. I just ordered a new dash from Winnie today.

I have an ABS plastic dash that will be going over the Manx 2 hood. The PO cut the original dash out. There is no original brackets to the dash. Now, I can screw/bolt it to my hood as it fits over the edges fine, but is this going to be rigid enough? My windshield has brackets from the inside that came with my berrien mounting kit for my steering column. Wan't there a metal frame for the dash?

I'm sure others will post better pictures of the dash frame but you can see it here in this picture. Basically it is rectangular (with two support bars between the top edge and bottom bar) with two legs that bolt to the tub. If you look at other pictures in my gallery (gas tank replacement folder) you can see other angles of it including the dash with the holes where it mounts to the frame.

Lazybonz,

Go to this link and print out the assembly instructions for the MANX. http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/forum/topic_show.pl?tid=901
The Windshield/Hood/Dash assembly starts on page 6.

This is the way the ABS dashes were installed. The new fiberglass replacements need to be adjusted to fit the hood and then bonded to the hood.

The MANX & MANX1 are the same. MANX2 is different

The original instructions for mounting an ABS dash are in the Manx 1 assembly instructions(figure 4) that Kustoms Tom posted.

http://tijuanakustoms.com/g/pdf%20set/Manx.pdf

I'll email you a copy of the instruction sheet I got when I bought a replacement dash from Winnie.

The prior post is pictures of how I did my dash on my early Manx. My Manx had the original abs dash and bracket, but both were pretty beat to use. I bought a new fiberglass dash and used the old bracket as a template to make a new one. I believe using a bracket is the only way to go so it provides a solid mounted windshield, hood and dash. It all ties together with the bracket. I used zues fasteners on the dash and large headed pop rivets on the hood. The windshield bolts through the hood and through the bracket. The whole setup is very solid and I can remove the dash if needed.

Dave, or anybody for that matter,

I realize this is a very old post, but I'm in the same boat as Dave. I've gotten a "new" style dash frame and fiberglass dash from the Manx site. I agree with Dave that having a complete, original dash frame would be sturdier than not having it. So, my question is, Dave, or anybody have the demensions of an original dash frame?
Dave did a good job of duplicating the original dash frame, and I'd like to do the same.

TIA

The original Meyers Manx dash frame with the top cross bar will only fit with an ABS dash.(second sentence in attached instructions)

If you have a new fiberglass dash, both it and it and your hood will be more rigid than the ABS dash ever was if you bond/fiberglass them together as Bruce Meyers specifies in the instructions he provides with them.

His new dash frame fits inside the fiberglass dash and provides a strong steering column mount and also ties the windshield frame, dash, hood and body solidly together.

BL, thank you for a copy of the instructions. I did not get one when I received mine.
