I bought the stock mirror for the passenger side from CIP.com and this is the second time it broke on me.

Does anyone know if these mirrors are any good?
Do they stay in place?

Fender-mount, i.e., swan neck, mirrors were stock on 65 earlier ghias, so the choices for "stock" and "swan neck" overlap. Plus, there are two different styles of stock door mount mirrors: 1) oval 66-67 and 2) rectangular 68-74.

Of the "bullet style", the O.G. Talbot 'Berlin' are by far the finest.
While not cheap, they are poetry in motion.
(note: there is a moderator in this very forum that might have a pair that he might sell you. Wink )

Define "not cheap" and how much is he looking to sell them for?
Has any one purchased similar mirrors for the same price?

I'm not looking for too much of an investment here, I'm still part-timing and going to school.

The poll was thrown in just for fun... if you feel so moved try clicking both options Laughing

I think it would be safe to assume, that would be the other moderator, so don't bother to PM me about them. Smile

I have a Talbot "Berlin" mirror on my 67. I like the way it looks but the way I mounted it is totally useless for a side mirror. It may have have been more functional if I mounted it out on the fender instead of the door. The mirror shown in the CIP catalog has a very small base, even smaller the the Talbot. I think it will look ok on a Ghia but if you want a useful side view mirror the Stock or a swan neck would be much more functional

Here's what my mirror looks like

Here is a view from the inside. It sits very low on the door. A taller base may have helped but overall I like the way it looks

Does the outer lip not turn to angle for the driver/passenger mirrors? (on either the CIP or Talbot ones)

I see.

I'm just gonna buck it up and buy the OEM replacement for the right side. I hate the cheap ones that I keep getting sent.

Thanks for all of the help.

I got myself a pair of original Talbot Berlin mirrors, can you tell me what you had to do to fix yours to the door?

I will try to make mine more usefull than yours, maybe to place them over the fenders.

I had the original mounting holes welded closed when the body work was done. I hadn't decided on where I was going to mount the mirrors.
My Talbot has "L" type bolts that allowed for installation from the outside of the car. Once I decided where I was mounting it I drilled the holes and installed it.
Here is a picture of the mounting hardware mine has......

My Talbot "Juniors" are mounted on top of the fenders over the wheels, right where the previous owner put them 40 years ago.
They look great, but the one on the passenger's side is useless to see behind you.
There are two methods of mounting, depending on which hardware you have with yours. One system has two "hook bolts" that are fastened with self-tapping screws to the body. These bolts go through the hollow base
and the mirror casing is then attached to the hook bolts with hex nuts.
The other system uses a "U" bolt instead of the two hook bolts.
It goes through the body panel from the back side.

The car closest in the foreground.

A little farther towards the front of the fender would actually work better.
