Can a 40 hp fan be installed in a 36 hp stock engine for improved cooling? If so, is there a significant/noticeable improvement in the amount of cooling? _________________ Charlie

40 HP fan will fit and cool better.
You can even install a 1500/1600 SP 29 mm or the DH 33, 34, or 35mm wide fan, but would need to add the earlier gen cooling holes to the fan. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Yes, you can do this, and as Eric&Barb said you can even use the later 1500/1600 fan. However, I've tried both of these options with perfectly balanced, un-warped fans, and found that there was significantly more cooling fan noise. Can't explain this.... maybe just the increased air flow and the aerodynamics of the 36hp fanshroud. I ended up putting the 36hp fan back in because all the extra noise annoyed me. _________________ Regards, John

Understood, appreciate the input. I have a NOS 40 hp fan on order and am also planning on removing the automatic air cooling control and the throttle ring at the air inlet to the fan shroud. Understand this was a common practice here in Southern California, although I would like to keep it as it was "part of the deal". This is all to maximize the cooling now that I have the Judson Supercharger. I also have installed a Fram Filter and a cooling coil at the air inlet that was made by Steph. John Moxon recommended the installation of the Abarth style exhaust, which I have done, to open up the back end with a side benefit of increasing flow through the engine and cooling. Not that the resulting operation to date with the Supercharger is impossibly hot, I just want the benefit of as much cooling as possible. The noise associated with the Supercharger will probably remain the noisiest part of the installation. Again, thanks for the information and input, I will keep you all posted. _________________ Charlie
