Chasing Classic Cars is a show that follows a seller (actually a car flipper) around to the Concours auctions as he tries to sell his cars.
This week (Monterey Madness) he had two 50's VWs, a 1953 Volkswagen Beetle convertible, a 1958 sunroof Beetle.
The '53 sold, but the ragtop didn't.
Unfortunately I came in near the end of the program 
Edit: Cleaned up the Title & text to hopefully help the search function.

your wrong
it was a 54 ragtop that DIDNT sell
and a 59 vert that did sell

... like I said I came in at the end of the program. I inferred what happened from the discussion @ the end.
I watched the 'Amelia Island' episodes and he brought the '54 Ragtop 
The 'Catalogue Price' is $25-35K, No reserve. The guy is looking to get the higher end @ 35K.
It sold for $36K

Hopefully Mink won't mind me using screen shots from his thread
I remember that ad as it was a very well worded ad that stuck out form the usual 'no tire kickers' ads.
Interesting that he bought it from Corwin... speak up man, how was he to deal with as a buyer?
Was he knowledgeable? Did he mention that it was an 'investment' or admit that he was flipping it?

My car wasn't actually for sale on the show - it was just profiled as a comparison. I'm hardly flipping the car. I've owned it for several years and yes, I know a lot about it, thanks. I don't appreciate you calling me out for some reason when you don't know anything about me or my cars. Just to set the record straight. |

I saw most of the episode and saw that it sold for $48,000 !!
Then after it sold, he was asked if it was a Porsche or a VW. 
I guess not too many people can say they have spent 50k for a VW !
Keep'em coming. I love hearing about those that spend big money to be a part of the VW crowd!

 Why are you upset? He didn't imply that you were flipping it. As a matter of fact, his post seemed downright complimentary to you. I can see why one might assume that yours was the one flipped on the show - the car he actually sold was a '54 Sunroof, but in the same color. To 99.9% of viewers, it probably looked like it was your car that was used. |

I was commenting on your ad as it was well written.
It's a rare thing that I would remember an ad from so long ago, so that was meant as a compliment.
Since I didn't see the beginning of the episode, I assumed that the guy on the show bought it from you.
It looked a *lot* like yours.
I wasn't trying to call you out... I was curious as to his comments when he bought the car.
Since he didn't buy yours, that point is now moot.

Yes, my thoughts exactly when I made the original post.
Overall, I think it's another example of VWs getting more positive exposure, since the car was taken to two premiere events and it was a hit!

Regarding Chasing Classic Cars I know it all comes down to money in our society but to me that show is just another example how the rich ruin it for everyone else. As one who has always been a financial idiot I guess I don't understand how the host (whatever his name is) drools his way through the show hoping for a mega-payoff on some flip. Just not me I guess -stick me in my garage with my beat up 67 and I'm happy.

I agree with alot of what yall have said, but regarding the comment above me, i partially agree with you, i do think its cool that they are willing to pay that much for something they want that bad. i think alot of times in auctions they blow past the real value just because two dude want it so bad that they have a $50k fight over it. its all good. to each theyre own. My brother works the car auctions all over the state of texas and has mentioned it a few times...
oh well....
i love that show. I think the whole idea of a "barn find" is something that will always be on the front of my mind. i cant so much as drive between two towns wondering..."whats in there....i wonder?"
