the style is reminiscent of the Roosevelt era "New Deal" National Park Service posters.
the slogan, (Yes We Camp!) however, is brilliant!
the artist who made the Obama poster is Shepard Fairy a so called 'vandal' street artist.
"SHEPARD FAIREY ON THE PROJECT:
“I wanted to make an art piece of Barack Obama because I thought an iconic portrait of him could symbolize and amplify the importance of his mission. I believe Obama will guide this country to a future where everyone can thrive and I should support him vigorously for the sake of my two young daughters. I have made art opposing the Iraq war for several years, and making art of Obama, who opposed the war from the start, is like making art for peace. I know I have an audience of young art fans and I’m delighted if I can encourage them to see the merits of Barack Obama.â€Â"
too bad he doesn't acknowledge the origin of the style. _________________ Tencentlife said,

Yes it's definitely harkening back to that older style of serigraphy. I always thought that was a nice stylistic touch on the Obama poster. The Vanagon "Yes We Camp" is just great, we had a nice chuckle over that! _________________ Shop for unique and useful Vanagon accessories at the Vanistan shop:

240gordy,
We have six of these posters (Glacier, Zion, Yosemite, Smokies, Devil's Tower and Petrified Forest) framed and grouped in our living room . They were reissued by a guy who calls himself the "Ranger of the Lost Art," who got the images from the U.S. Archives. Nice work nicely reproduced and usually available at the National Parks as well as online. |

It's been a LONG time since we've had a president that we can hold our heads up in pride while he's out in public..

The artist Shepard Fairey was interviewed today on NPR's Fresh Air. I heard about half of the interview. Pretty interesting. |
