Here is mine, it is an early 1965 standard sunroof, walk through with original paint. I am in the process of getting it back on the road. The Upolstery work starts the first week of January.

| What a nice, straight bus! Love the original paint scheme with that sunroof. Hopefully the dent in the nose will come out nice. |

Love the story behind this bus John. Quick question, do you remember what town it came from on the Jersey shore ? I love what Josh Hibbler did and also wonder how long the build took?

It was in Millville, far South Jersey.
Took about 4 years, as the previous owner was slow-rolling the payments on the restoration work. I bought it mid-restore, and it took another six months approximately until I got it home. Took me another year to finish it.

Great looking bus!! Do you think it was a tourist delivery bus or delivered originally to Houston/ San Antonio? |

The birth certificate I have for the bus says tourist delivery.
The birth certificate says code 798 cannot be identified. I have seen other threads on here asking what that code is and no one knew for certain.

This is super interesting, but I am struggling to decipher the SWR sliding roof colors. I wonder what the 2 different sets of printed color represents on the Kombi sheet.
Black seems to be commercial given the Grey reference for the roof center and roof lining. With a V67 Sealing wax red cover. What does SWR material even look like?
But then the red text really confuses me as standards are covered in the 3rd image so what color spec is represented in the Red Text? SWR with sliver beige interior trim and a V94 Ruby Red sliding roof cover.
There are only 3 sets of trim I am aware of (not including westfalias), Commercial, Standard and Deluxe - Standard and Deluxe are the same inside I think. So what is the mystery spec references here in red text??
I also now know not to call them sunroofs or ragtops. It’s Sliding roof from now on!
Either way this is great information - I have day dreamed about fitting a rag top on my Kombi many times - and for some reason I always thought it would be brown.
I have never even seen a picture of a SWR Kombi with sunroof - that’ll get me hunting for a while.

This intro page from the full book above has info on the red text
It appears that is the replacement part when an original color is No Longer Available.
So if you had a SWR Sunroof Kombi that came with a SWR cover and needed a new cover later, you got a Ruby Red one.

I can't remember ever seeing a Kombi in single color SWR with a factory ragtop. I do remember there was a Ruby Red Kombi bus with a factory sunroof that was for sale several years ago on this site. It still had remnants of the original red color sunroof cover. There is a thread here on that bus.
I own a SWR standard with a factory sunroof, but that bus came as SWR with Beige Grey paint on the top so the sunroof color was an off white grey color.

It should be saved, it is rarer than most Barndoors and they are building back many Barndoor buses that are way worse than this. They make the whole new roof sections now with a sunroof hole with or without skylight holes. A porto power can straighten up the bent pillars. This bus is a high hinge mango sunroof standard and those to not pop up very often.
