Looks great Spencer. I always enjoy checking out your engine builds, very "parts specific". You should post a black and white photo of one of your engines. It would look just like something from the back of an old magazine from the early 70's. Very cool. _________________ Independent German Auto

Wonderful work! What frustration to have an original S&S (Sauer und Sohn) exhaust system, but barely be able to run it or the paint will burn off!
Silver fresh air hoses painted gloss black?
My dad got the German "Gute Fahrt" VW-based magazine regularly in the 1970's when I was a teenager. I remember occasional comparison tests among modified VW engines such as Sauer, Oettinger/OKRASA, TDE, Riechert, and a few others. All kits had to be top-notch and complete to pass the rigorous German vehicle inspection agency (TUeV). By comparison, here in the USA we had it easy, with pioneers like the original EMPI, DDS, and Gene Berg with robust parts to easily surpass the output of those German kits. |

| Yes indeed, but look at his- they are SHINY black. The black ones you can buy are flat black because the expandable outer material is made of thick paper/cardboard. Let's see if spencer clarifies this insignificant detail for us. |

Maybe I can shed some light on that. Heater hose comes several different ways, I'll list them. The best is what I call the "three ply" German heater hose. It has an outer black paper, then a foil layer, then an inner brown paper. By far the best but it's been hard to find lately. The next is the two ply which is black paper on the outside, brown paper on the inside. It is what most places sell as "OEM". Not good for use with a header, it will catch fire! Next is the foil/corrugated type hose, it is available in silver or shiny black. I stock the silver, it seems to be more popular in my area. _________________ 30 years experience in the sales of new and used auto parts!

sorry I did not reply sooner been working on our race car trying to get it ready for a drag race this week end . you know how new race cars are it takes time to dial them in . thanks for the kind words on the saur motor .I was very lucky to get that header it came from spain .you don't even want to know how much it cost to ship it to the USA lol lets put it this way I will never sell it lol the valve covers came from England the valve covers are very hard to find . I am also building a vintage drag race motor from the 1970s .I enjoy finding old school parts but its getting harder to find them . I hope by building these motors that more people will start saving vintage parts so people will see how a vintage motor should look sorry about the new heater hose guys but every time a find old heater hose it falls a part from age ever thing else is vintage parts I would also like to state that this motor can not be run it has no crank rods cyls cam lifters or valve train its a mock up motor with old speed parts on it . so when I take it to vw shows I can move it around easly one day I will make it so it will run . I just could not wait I had to put it together this way for now thanks spencerfvee
