Is there any trick to get the headliner white again? It is yellowing. I know I can replace it all, but it is in really good shape so if anyone here knows of some special way to restore it I would appreciate it. Very Happy

It looks whiter in these pictures than it really is. Probably because I took these images with a flash at nighttime.

That looks like some sort of bleach for cleaning tires? I suppose it might work. Bleach itself might work, dunno why that didn't pop into my head before.

If it's just dirty you can clean it. Simple Green in the mix ratios on the back can work. Or a rag and soapy water. Try not to get it too wet.

If it's the area where the glue is coming through, this would be all the thin sides, I haven't be able to do anything that was permanent. I used a watered-down bleach solution on my Ghia pillars and the yellowing came back after a while.

I have been somewhat successful with laundry soap and a mild bleach combo. Just need to be carefull not to stretch it as you clean.

Westleys is pretty strong and supposed to be rinsed with water afterward, I'd try something less strong first.

For upholstery I like the "magic eraser" from the grocery store/KMart/etc. They work great on most door panels.

Tires, WW's and vinyl. I've used it on eveything from whitewalls to white vinyl vert tops to white boat upholstery with good results in most cases.

It does work awesome on tires. I used it on floor mats too, when they are removed from the vehicle.

I do a section at a time (of course) and "wipe-wash" it as I go with clear water/toweling, I will say though as Everett said, it's not perm.. Needs to be done from time to time, and though I've not seen any damage on my uses, I don't know if would eventually damage an og/old headliner.

Thanks for all the suggestions. If I have time tomorrow I will head to the store and get some Simple Green, and some Magic Eraser, and try them both on small sections. I will be pretty busy till the weekend though, so maybe it will have to wait till then Sad

simple green and water and a sponge.
I like arm and hammer laundry soap. Baking soda neutralises.
Bleach is a bit harsh, and can help dry out the vinyl, so if you use it, do so sparingly, in a squirt bottle diluted with water. rinse well after wards.

If you hose, you'd want to take the seats out first. You don't want soggy seats.

Leave it as is. It matches the patina of the rest of it.

I had some time to try out the Magic Eraser today. It did a pretty good job of cleaning it up. Left only what I assume to be glue marks. Cleaning the entire headliner with Magic Eraser will require a lot of Magic Erasers. Going around just one window had it pretty dirty. I picked up some Simple Green as well, but did not have time to mix it. If it works just as well, or better, I think that will be the cheaper way to go for sure!

Here is a before and after shot.

Yes, I should have said that, the Magic Erasers don't last too long. I rinse them out but they still disintegrate.

If you a can find a bulk pack it's a lot cheaper in the long run.

I used tilex mildew spray and used a vinyl conditioner afterwards. It worked great for me. I would try a small area first.
