Just thinking, If my battery was too low to turn the starter, could I remove the alternator belt and spin the alternator pully manually and actually charge the battery up? Jim

If you think you could get it up to 800 rpms or so it would work, but your going to have to have some pretty quick strong fingers to accomplish that.

Yes....
But you would have to spin it at least 1000-1200rpm just to excite the busings and start generating power, and then keep it spinning for quite a while. Probably worth the trip to Autozone for a free carge.

Get a old 1/4 or 1/2 hp 110v motor with a v belt pulley on that, stick your alt bet on it and on the alt plug it it and let it go. I think some of them spin at 1725 rpm good enough to get it charging.
