I need to remove my clutch cable on my 67 bus to remove the beam and cannot see how to do this

there is a nut connected to the leaver that connects to the cable near the frame -I took this off and it did not do any thing really - is it just a bit rusty and wont come off as the leaver neads freeing up - how do you disconect the cable to pass through the beam and enable you to remove said beam?

thanks

Take two small pieces of wood and some type of clamp.

Have someone push down on the clutch pedal.

Find the point the clutch cable enters the metal tube behind the front beam.

Clamp the wood pieces onto the clutch cable so as to keep it from sliding backwards into the tube when pedal is let up on.

Then you can let up on the pedal and it should stay against the floor.

At front of the cable there should be a clip that you need to flip up off the cable and then slide the pin out of the cable to release it.

Good to hear it worked.

Have you got the coupler between the front and rear shift rods loose yet?
That can be a bugger. Just do not break off the square bolt heads up in there. Lots of rust busting oil and more than likely applying every day for a few weeks to let it soak in.

Or can try the heat the coupler up good and hot and then soak with water to rapidly cool. Repeat as needed so doing that will break up the rust plating in there into a dust from the expansion and sudden shrinking of the parts from cooling.

You should always 'struggle' to take it off properly the first time. That way you know how to put on the new part.

The second to 10th time you can cut it Smile

that came off fine, the square nut moved after so GT85 (its like WD40) and then a lot of jiggling it around. to remove from the front was tricky but i did it in about 15 mins of wiggling in the end Very Happy

I'm about to change the cable on my 67 as well and wondering is it just the one nut on the inside of the chassis that holds the cable on or are there two nuts on the outside of the chassis I need to remove?

Would depend on which adjusting nuts you have UNDER the bus ( there is no inside/outside of the chassi with the bus). At this point you could have the early double locking nuts or the single wing nut in there. So whip out a flashlight and get up under there to look.

Also keep in mind that different clutch cables have different size threads on them. So good to always check that the cable you get fits the nut/s you have now, before installing the cable. Added bonus is to make sure the nut/s fit due to every once in a while the threads on the clutch cable may not be a proper size as to fit any stock nuts, due to a worn out die was used to make the threads!!

Do use anti-seize on the cable threads to keep the nut/s from rusting to it!

Personally always carry on board a accelerator cable and a clutch cable on board. The latter with the adjusting nut/s already on the spare cable, just in case!
