Got one today, good frame, needs re-covering. Thought it was pretty cool, but then I noticed I never see them. Was it a special option? Searched full size, seat, middle, but didn't get anywhere.
Just curious, thanks! |

They were standard in 9 passenger busses (an option over the walkthrough) and came as the only rear seat in alot of later Kombi's if ordered that way. 2 out of 5 middle seats I find are full length, not super rare but not as common as 3/4 seats. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'd like to get my hands on a full length middle seat that has the fold down portion on the passenger side. Right now I have the 3/4 seat and it would be nice to just have the room for one more person when needed. I actually don't see them for sale much. _________________ "Aircooled VWs are like roaches in that if you let one in, they'll soon be nesting all around you in great numbers."

Right. Mine has the fold down section to it. Okay, so it was an available option, but maybe not so common. I thought as much. Thanks! |

I've got a 1969 9-Passenger Deluxe. It's definitely "uncommon" but not rare.
As a teenager, I personally think it's the best seating set-up. Not even an Escalade can seat 9.
I've got a picture of my middle-seat in my gallery. _________________ -1972 Baja Champion SE Super Beetle "Frank the Freak"

Beware what you wish for, that seat eats up the last bit of cargo floor space in the back, no more throwing in that BBQ you just picked up at the store or engine case from the swap meet. It's nice to have the extra seat but I found I really missed the room for bigger cargo when I needed it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

we got used to a 3/4 with a Z-Products Z-Bed in the back so the back could fold down or sit up for extra passengers. Then we looked a friends bus that had the full middle fold down bench. Did not like it at all. It was too much of a hassle to walk through to the front or open the sliding door from the inside. Probably good as a taxi cab but really lost the utility of a walk thru with a fold down bed in the back. I guess it depends upon what you will use it for. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

why would you have a full width bay window seat when you claim to not have a bus???? hmmmm. i just don't udnerstadn why you'd spend money on parts for something you don't have. it's like buying cat food when you have a mouse _________________ proud owner of a defunct 1979 sunroof kombi

Kevin (Buggedout) on the Aircoolers board was going to throw it out, so I took it. You never know what might come in handy sometime. I think I do like the 3/4 better though. Seems awful crowded with the full size seat in there. |

Rough looking, but with a solid frame, and free. Not a bad deal. |

I have the full middle seat in my 68 - and here's the kicker, mine is a walk-thru, which makes it a very uncommon (in the U.S. at least) 8 seater. _________________ 1968 Deluxe "Clipper L" Type 2

Hmm, over here I see heaps of the full width 3 person middle seats for sale in quite nice condition, but I've seen almost NONE of the 2-person seats. The one bloke who's got one won't sell it to me!
Aren't all the full width middle seats equipped with the fold down bit on the sliding door side?
Oorwullie, that's a pretty neat thing to have, a double flipper. I am not even trying to find one for my double door; I've never even heard of someone in Aus' actually having one.
(As an aside, why are the 2 person middle seats called 3/4 seats? Surely 2/3 is more appropriate).
Cheers, A. |
