|
|
Hi, can anyone help;
I have a 2006 VW engine in my 79 beetle cabrio, it (the engine) was bought new from VW Brazil (so a bus engine?) through an insurance, so I never got any ID on it or much paperwork (I am Brit, living in France). A French garage installed it then I just picked it up. I think it may be a Type IV engine because it is aluminium shiny, but how do I identify it? I cannot find any numbers. I have the standard 79 fuel injection on it (works very good) and the engine is amazingly strong. It has 043 cylinder heads (Mexican), all the standard tin fits ok. Any info appreciated. |

If it has the stock FIand tin on it, it's a type 1 motor. The engine ID, if it has one, will be stamped into the case below then alternator stand. Factory replacement motors often do not have ID numbers, considering the car is registered through the VIN, it's not really necessary.

Ok thanks for the advice.
I will try to get some pics of the engine bloc (not easy).
Yep, I guess it must be Type 1 1600; but I am still a bit doubtful, as from memory it seems different to my old car's engine (type 1 1302 1300), especially the metal and some bits underneath. |

| ...ahh... well I read some of the 'racing' thread and they have a lot of info about cases that seem to sort of answer my questions: It seems that they must have a higher content aluminium alloy in later cases. |

The aluminium/magnesium content doesn't really change the appearance of the case much. Your engine should basically look like this.
