I had to replace the ignition switch on the car. After I reassembled the car and started to drive it the air bag light came on. I checked all the connections that I unplugged between the air bag/steering wheel and the wiring of the car. I suspect maybe it was the little red button near the 24mm nut that holds the steering wheel on. I resecured everything and the light has been off ever since.

AIR BAG light off = OK?????

If the light is off then the system is happy.

Not Happy, light came back on......

I plugged in the blue to black connection under the column and secured the little red button down. But the air bag light comes back on from time to time.

What is the check list for this reinstall? I marked the wheel with paint marks to ensure I put it back on straight

Do I need a VAG Laughing ?

What about the clock spring? They should lock when removed but if it is improperly indexed you can stretch the circuits within the assembly when turning sharp. Some times just distrubing the clock spring can cause a small amount of resistance in the circuit and the module knows. You really need to know what code is being set in the system and go from there. With a code I can be of much more help in diagnosing your problem.

Haven't been on the samba for a while, but here is the follow up on my air bag light.

I "tested" the new ignition switch before I reinstalled the steering wheel. That set of the air bag control module and the air bag light. I had to take the car to a garage and have them reset the module to turn the light off.
