I zoomed in on the photo and figured out the Rally plaque is for the "Rallye Sestriere". This is a city in western Italy near the French border, due west of Turin. I could not find an entry list for the early 1950's rallies, but there are some photos of other 356 with close entry numbers 72, etc. In the results listings from 1952 and 1953 there are Porsches listed as finishers. The driver in both years is Helmut Polensky, and from an image search might be him here.

Gary Anderson - designer of the ubiquitous recycling logo, he was 23 and won $2000 in 1970 for it.
