Wondering if anyone in this forum has ever removed/repaired/reinstalled the outer vent cap on an early distribtor like this one? Just trying to learn what I will encounter before I start. You don't come across one of these everyday. It is date stamped May 1949.

You have to be very careful removing them or you know the results.
They are pretty fragile and i've never been able to repair one. _________________ Glenn

I just checked my old rusted cores and I do have a early 383 but the vent is rusted solid and started to disintegrate as soon as I touched it.
You could salvage one from a early VJ4BR8 or VJU4BR8, but they have to be from a 54 or maybe a 55.
You could just put a later ozone vent since it's better than nothing. _________________ Glenn

It is still functional so maybe I will leave it in place, it is what it is... ?
Is the assembly a single piece or two parts?
I have some distributors that are later than 55 that have the same vent assembly so perhaps there is no early vs later version of vent? _________________ Roads Scholar

Well, thanks to Mika (Virtanen) I found an answer to my own question. The ozone vent cap is a one piece deal. It has a small screen inside the larger screen outside though. Thought I would post some pics of the part since Mika was kind enough to send it my way. It was shipped very quickly too. I am still waiting on a part from Venezuela six weeks later...
