|
|
Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me on this problem...
I have an old beetle with a lowered front beam and dropped spindles for disc brakes from CB Performance...
My problem is that it is too low ! ! ! The only way I can raise it is by removing the coverplate in the front to allow enough space to adjust the front beam... Really I don't even know what is behind the cover plate but think it is the wires for the rear hand brakes... Are there after market cover plates that I can install to solve this???
Thanks and hope someone can help.

LEAVE THE COVER PLATE ALONE! That won't help you at all.
You have adjusters on the beam. Thats the bolts in the center of each tube and the plates that have the teeth on them.
Loosen the bolts so the teeth are not tight in the plates. Then put a jack under the front and jack the car up to where you want it.
Then simply tighten up the bolts and those plates with the teeth will keep the ride height where you put it. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

?? I know how to raise the front end but cannot because the coverplate is in the way to the extent needed. If you notice how high the lower stud is you can see that the cover plate is too deep. A suggestion would be great on whaþ new coverplate I can install. Is that the cover for the hand brakes? Thanks and hope to hear someones solution, Carl

it appears that the builder of the beam preset the adjusters lower than most and I doubt you will get the height you want without placing the adjusters in a better position and welding them back in _________________ Ovals are Overrated.....Click to view image

Thanks. I didn't think about that but would rather have the tension even upper and lower.
I was hoping someone would know where to get a prefabbed cover
The beam is from CB Perf. so I figured this problem would of come up often with those that install the CB beam and lowered disc brakes on a pre 53.

| you are right it wont go higher with the cover on. you may try setting the height of the upper torsion tube with the cover off and set the lower as high as you can with the cover on. other options might be to fabricate a cover that allows more space if possible or simply go back to stock spindles |

Good idea...
Does anyone have a step by step description with pics on how to do that??? Would be the best I think.
I couldn't find anything on TheSamba for instructions... Only text to cut and weld ;-(
Thanx

as said before adjustment of the top adjuster to the hight you want would be fine!
if you dont have welding skills take the car to a local welder and ask them to notch the cover plate its a relly simple job to someone that knows what there doing with metal.
please post a photo of your ride hight, theres nothing better than a laid out split _________________ BUSDROPPINGBEAMNARROWINGSTEERINGBOXRAISING"C"NOTCHINGRUSTREPAIRINGBEETLEDROPPING

Car is too low because the tire rubs on the wheel well when I brake a little stronger...

Brake a tad softer.. these cars are the kind you need to keep your safe distance versus traffic and then some more distance to be safe!
Car looks AMAZINGLY good as is..... and I don't like dropped rides that much... but that one just looks cool! _________________ Click Here for a clicking sound... |

It's best if yoo leave a trail of sparks down the road. That ehaust has to be almost perfect, if yoo couyld just double the size it would then be spot on. So two foot exhaust outlet, grinding the underneath just driving around is the perfect stance, very useful machine. |
