The right window regulator on my 73 SB will roll down, but not back up. The handle just turns like the gear inside is stripped (the handle isn't stripped...I already checked this). I took the regulator out, and following the how-to thread on this board, I took it apart but ran out of daylight.
Before I took the mechanism apart (I couldn't figure out how to get it out until I read the thread), I oiled it up and it started freeing up, but then it would stop at a certain point and the handle still turned like it's stripped.
Do you guys think that it's worth it to clean it up and put it back together, or is the gear stripped? I hope it was just slipping because the thing is so grimed up, but I don't want to put it all back together and have the same problem.
Thanks. |

I had the same problem with my passenger door last weekend. All i did was take it out clean it real good with carb cleaner (all i had laying around) greased it up with white lithium grease and re installed it. Works perfectly now just in time for rainy season... _________________ '71 Super Beetle (sold) |

That's what I wanted to hear. I'll clean it up and try it. At least if it doesn't work, it's not too hard to disassemble the door again. |

and from personal experience, OEM German window regulators are superior to this after market crap... _________________ '71 Super Beetle (sold) |

I agree. I always try to use original German parts when available. I have a neighbor that claims to have a good regulator, so if this one doesn't work I'll buy his or something. I have an extra door, but the regular is in the same shape. |
