Hey everyone, I have been a long time lurker on the samba, but just recently picked up another bug, so i guess its time to start chiming in.
I have a 61 sedan with a new 1641. It ran when i bought it a month ago, but i havent tried starting it since then. Im getting spark and fuel but it wont start. engine turns over. it doesnt even sound like it wants to start. I have poured a little gas in the carb, but nothing, I have a spark on all 4 cylinders. Any ideas? Thnaks!!! |

Maybe it's flooded.
Starting fluid is a good way to see whats going on. Give it a squirt and if she fires with the starting fluid, you either had too little or too much fuel.
If it's flooded and the plugs are wet, she won't fire. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

X2 about plugs
sounds like you fouled out the plugs. I would pull and replace them. Mine used to do that all of the time. _________________ 1965 Herbie Replica. 1776cc dual Kads.

That sounds right, although I checked 2 of the plugs at the time and they didnt seem damp, but they did reek of gas. I will spray the carb BEFORE i try to start it tomorrow and see if i get a reaction. Thanks for the advice guys. I will let you know how it turns out! |

If you have flooded your carb, and your plugs are all dry, press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and start it. Keep cranking nonstop and in short time your carb will balance out and she should start. |
