I see these options alot when looking at crankshafts. What's the difference and why? |

Chevy rod journals are smaller, so less clearancing is involved. _________________

Sure... you can take a grinder to them. You can also use an adjustable wrench to assemble it. |

Use VW journals for 78mm and smaller cranks. Use Chevy journals for 82mm and larger. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

No hard and fast rule to it, Dave. I have a VW 82 crank with stock rods and one of those pre-clearanced cases, it dropped right in with plenty of room to spare. Personally, I'd rather have the additional journal overlap on the longer cranks, it adds life. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

I also have an 82mm crank and pre-clearanced case with stock clearanced rods, but I still had to clearance the cam.
Probably wouldn't have had to clearance the cam if I had used chevy journals. _________________
