The speedo on my '70 Ghia is 5 MPH off at 70 and the engine speed is around 3,600 rpm at the same speed. The 185/65/15 tires on it are an inch shorter than the 5.60x15 originals. A net search shows 185/75x15 about the same diameter as the originals but not available and 185/80/15 an inch taller and available. The tires on the car now only have 5k miles but are 12 years old. The car has been lowered 3/4" rear and 1" front and the rear track is 1/4" wider due to a disc brake conversion. Has anyone put the 80 profile on a lowered car?

Hello chiefdaveboats,
Can you tell me what are the wheels that you are using ?
15" x 4 1/2" or 15" x 5 1/2"
Should be stamped on face of wheel by lug nuts.
Does it have an ET / offset number? |

Wheels are 15x5.5, offset unknown. the standard 5.60 tire has a nominal diameter of 25.8"and I would like to stay with that or slightly larger. The 185/65/15's now on the car are 24.8". The closest I have been able to find are 185/75/[email protected]" which seems discontinued and and 195/70/[email protected]" which is also hard to find. Coker dos offer something close but my last purchase from them I had to go thru 9 tires to get 4 that were sort of round. |

We could only wish there was a selection of tire brands with the size :
185/70/15 or 195/70/15 would be perfect fit for our cars.
Type 3, Karmann Ghia & Porsche 914 all have this fit and wheel offset issues for the rear fenders.
I'm running 195/65/15 on Porsche 914... 15" x 5 1/2"... w/ ET40 as the taller tires you will lose the turning radius for front fender clearance. |

| Thanks for all of the advice. I did find out that Vredestein's are just imported by Coker and not made by them on old molds. Decided to go with Sprint Classic's, 165VR15 front and 185VR15 rear. If my calculations are correct about half the speedo error will be gone and RPM will drop 400 at cruise. |
