Just wondering if any one has cleaned the underside of their 91 pop top Vanagon? How you did it and what cleaner did you use? It’s the original material which feels slightly felted to me.
Thanks and we appreciate your help.
Cheers
Dan

Just cleaned mine last weekend since I had the top off to replace the tent.m. The felt-like material is flocking that was sprayed on and is not super thick or durable so gentle is better.

I sprayed CLR mold and mildew cleaner over the whole top, used a soft scrub brush, had a bucket of water to dip the brush in, and scrubbed down the top. After I still saw mold spots and dirt I decided to go with a 4:1 Water bleach mix and re-did the whole thing. I also used a drill mount upholstery brush to work the dirt and grime a bit more, which made a difference, but staying in one spot too long would remove flocking if not careful. The bleach was the way to go, after cleaning and letting it sit for a few minutes, after the final rinse it was completely clean with no signs of mold/mildew/grime/spots, a little fading in the front but looks good for almost 40 years old.
