PostPosted: Tue Sep 08, 2009 1:08 pm    Post subject: I read theSplit Bus FAQ. HELP Front Window Frame seals Reply with quote

The only thread I could find on this subject was the " Front Window Frame HELL Restoration " in the Split Bus FAQ and How Tos - *Read before posting*. I thought, great this is just what I need. I scroll down the page and a bunch of pics seem to be gone, where did they go? I am new to busses, and the window frames I have already have had the seals removed; so I have nothing to go by as far as reference. What I thought was weird is that my Bentley manual has nothing in-depth about this either. Does anyone have any info to help me out? I have a '65 Standard, thanks

Often people will host photos on other websites. Photos are removed from those sites for various reasons. Once that happens, the original links no longer work. That is probably what you are seeing. Maybe send a PM to the original poster to upload the photos to the Samba gallery where a site administrator can update the links in the thread. A FAQ item should not have dead hotlinks.

Thanks for the replies. I have a bunch of window frame/door seals I have no clue where to put them. I am new to busses, looked through the Bentley Manual and there are no diagrams or explaination on where to put them. Unfortunatley when I got the buss, all the seals were removed from the window frame and doors. I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Not sure which seals, but maybe this might help:

Try going to wolfsburg wests website. Do a search for bus window seals and they have a picture showing all the seals and where they go. click on the coded number and you will see a closeup of the seal too.

Thanks both " tasb " and " arthurnugen ", that's just what I needed. I ordered a window frame, seal rebuild kit from Bfyobsolete.com and they did not have that on their site. Thanks again

If you ordered from BFY, you don't need install instructions, because they'll never send you the parts. Cancel that order and call WW... STAT Exclamation .

does anyone know if this is anywhere close to original? I looked at my original door with original rubber and it appears that from the factory there was a 2" long (5cm for us metric people) long piece of solid rubber jammed in the rubber track to keep the dividing bar from falling forward..

Thoughts??

Later Buses used the clips. I have seen them on 66-67 Buses but am not sure when the switch was made.

My '65 was the same as yours, with the rubber "block".

Uh-Oh is right. It took almost three weeks to get my order. Somehow my first order got stuck in Phoenix and could not get delivered to my house ( That took 1 1/2 weeks ) Confused Sooo... my order had to get pulled and shipped again, this time it did get to my house ( another week ). Now how is it that it takes 2 1/2 weeks to get from California to Arizona Rolling Eyes So I start to install the window frame stuff and come to realize that I am missing the two Vent Window Flap Seals Evil or Very Mad I call up BFY, tell them what's up, and they said they would get it out STAT, hopefully I will get them today. I will never deal with these people again. Every time I deal with Wolfsburg West, EIS and CIP, I usually get my stuff shipped out the same day and to my house the same week. Thanks for posting that thread, everything that happened to that guy happened to me. THINK TWICE, IF NOT THREE TIMES before dealing with them.

I called BFY, talked to Darren, ordered soft brake lines, front and back, and had them on my doorstep in 2 days. FWIW, the good experiences with BFY never seem to show up here and I don't think I'm the only one.

Wolfsburg West is always quick too. When they say "usually shipped within 24 hours" they're right.

Unfortunately, in these times first impressions mean a lot, this is my first experience with them and it was a BAD one. I am sure there are other and many great experiences from people in the VW community, mine was just bad. There are too many other companies that I can get parts from in a timely manor even. Not trying to make this thread into a BURN session, just trying to confirm the concerns of the previous posters.

On a positive note. The quality of the seals and rubber ( I said rubber Laughing ) I got from BFY are really good and so far installation is going pretty smooth. The only thing I had trouble with are the front vent wing seals, man they were a BITCH and seemed to take forever. I also had to drill out the old screws and nuts that held the bottom of the window frame, they were rusted solid.

Check their vendor feedback.... they used to be a great company...times have changed. You don't get nearly 30 pg.s of mostly neg. feedback for nothing. Sadly, they now suck, IMO

Linda,

Ronnie (Splitpile) at Bustoration.com has the best rubber. He stocks what he uses on his own buses.
