Or lug nuts as some people refer to them.

Going from left to right and numbering 1 to 5, what style does your Bus have and what year is it?

Barndoors use #1 on the far left.
This is considered the "Barndoor" lug bolt but has been reported be used at least through Feb., 1956 - possibly all Wolfsburg-produced Buses.
My '61 and '63 Buses have #5, the far right bolt with the deep impression.

Close up of one on my April 1955 Deluxe. All of the bolts on this wheel match this one, not sure about the other wheels yet. Looks closest to #2?

Just for reference these are the same as 4x130 lug bolts. I typically see the middle ones the most on the late models. I just keep a drawer full of these things, don't care what is stamped on top. Very Happy

So 4-lug cars use longer lug bolts like a Bus?

What is the original finish on lug bolts? Bare metal, black oxide or what?

Between all my buses I have 1 through 5 and then some plain Janes
Guess I should go through the 5 gallon bucket full and seperate them for those that need special stampings?

I don't know with certainty but it looks like black oxide to me.

with the exception of the barndoor lug bolts were the others available through all the years? I've got all of the ones shown above on various buses none of which can be verified as originals. I've been looking at the rear tranny cradle bolts lately and have seen many manufacturers. I'm wondering if there was a kamax era, a dorn era, a verbus era, etc?

I would say no, not all 55-67 years but it wouldn't surprise me to hear more than 1 of them was available at the same time... typical VW using more than 1 supplier and all that.

not to hijack the thread, but is there a barndoor tranny cradle bolt with a 29 part number? Mine had one verbus and one rasche, but no 29.
