Hi, I just ran into a guy with a variety of different parts and told him I was looking for some front shoes for my 59 bus but said all he had was for a 54 and 55 bus.... He verified this through his parts book (has pics and measurements)

can anyone give me some information/ specs on these shoes to verify that they are indeed for barndoor?

I do not need these so they will probably be looking for a home....

I didn't think there were different brake shoes for different barn doors. I think 50-55 are all the same?

Barndoor shoes are 40mm wide but I don't know if that is a definitive guide to identification as I think small nut rear shoes are also 40mm.

There are two types for barndoors. These are for a 54 - 55. I will try to find, when the change was.

These are the early ones. Note they have the same profile in both ends.
Change was at 20-069408.

Looks like I've got a few of each. I never saw this difference. Functionally are they both the same?

The thread I linked to above states the difference - it has to do with the change in the set up of the springs used for the shoes.

IIRC, the ends are different . One kind uses the brake adjust screw with the slope where it hits the shoes, the other uses the kind with the straight end. Hope that makes sense.

IIRC, if you find the wrong shoes you can use them by using the other kind of adjusting screw.
I think bd brake shoes are the same width as 68 beetle shoes. Not sure about the diameter, though.

they are the same, I am running rear 68+ shoes on the front of my '53 kombi, stock drums and backing plates, I just angled the ends of the shoes on the bench grinder to match the original shoes. worked fine for years like that.
