does anyone know if you can put a 67 bug engine in a 65 bug without too much trouble?

You may have to grind down the inside of the transmission to fit the larger flywheel (i believe), but other than that it should be good.

If I remember right the 67 is the 200mm flywheel where the 65 is a 180mm flywheel.

Clearancing the transaxle for the 200mm flywheel can be done. But you also will now need a different starter and starter bushing. And what ever starter you get will be 12volt which be another problem if your still 6 volt system.

On other hand you could put your 180mm flywheel on the 67 motor but in long run its not worth the trouble. YOu have to redo all the end play for flywheel and flywheel seal, shims and so forth to set end play.
