I was asked about this interesting pot-top toggle latch today and I have no answers. Is this unusual, aftermarket or something rare from Westfalia? I'm not sure what it is supposed to do other than allow the user to pull the rubber handle easily. Maybe it's from Baywindow Westies. Does anyone know about them or where to get them?

It's the middle/rear from an early Bay with the full length top. The added hook grabs the edge of the roof opening.

Hello everyone,
rare!
Most replacements since decades are black - as also in my bay.
My originals are cracked and good originals ones are rare and hard to find.
Some I had bought in white or black in the past were much too hard and firm and not stretchy enough.
There is a nearby similar looking light grey ones today from WolfsburgWest at different shops - not tested them till now.
It was not needed in late bay Westfalia models with rear pop top since 1974. But it was not only on early bay models, it was an original part of 2 Westfalia SO 76/1 Berlin with late larger versions elevated roofs that I had in my garage during the restoration.
Both have these white /light grey/ beige latches. And saw it here also an other roof versions.
These small elevated roofs are not common in the US market for bays. There were two length by westfalia - and the larger one I talking about that was used from 6.1977 to 1979. The larger one has some storage space on top of the roof cutout. brochure images from small and larger one (compare the length to the sliding door window):
These also have a protector made of soft grey plastic near the hook on the support tab which protects the fabric and sheet metal - get probably lost in busdaddys photo.
or here with 2 in front of them in a SO 73/5 Offenbach Westfalia with early rear pop top around 1974:
I can't find any photo of it in my brochure collection (more than 400 items) or old magazines or press photos.
But in VW microfiche "Campmobile, Mod. 74 - 79, Mod. 80" page 81 around part #12 VW order# 231 069 724 A or Westfalia# 216 004 113 064:
Some more details and photos on my German website,
including 1977 installation instructions Westfalia lifting roof 216 014 841 001 with schematic picture of the latch ("Haubenhalter"):

Curious if the small size bay window pop-top roof was the same as SO-42? _________________ WANTED:
