I'm rebuilding a case and while putting in the lifters, I noticed they are pretty tight and it takes a good amount of effort to slide them in and out. Is there anyway to judge how much they should move? Most cases I opened have the lifters falling out when you tilt the case, not these for sure!!

As I recall .0009" to .0018" is the spec. If the case has been sitting a thin layer of corrsion builds up on the mag.

I have noticed many reground lifters appear well abused and need some attention.

The lifters should be .746"-.747"
The bores should be .748"-.750"

Often in old cases that have sat around for awhile, the bores get all oxidized. You may need to hone them a little with a brake cyl. hone to clean them up.

Inspect the lifters very carefully for small burrs. Those will make the lifters hang up in the bores. If you find some sand them with 400 grit.
