|
|
I have the switch that works off the speedo cable for a non switch nose cone, and I have two reversing lights coming via UPS.
I need two clamps to mount my reverse light onto my rear over-riders, got anything that will do?
I was told the clamps that hold the front number plate on work, but my searches in the classified seem to fail.
Any suggestions? _________________ 63 singlecab

I bent up a piece of flat stock to mount a light off the PS bumper guard bolt. The light was under the overrider next to the guard. I tried to make it look as factory as possible. I don't have the bumper any more but I can take a pic of the bracket if you are interested. It;s not very complicated. _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

ericandbarb,
I got the switch that goes in back of the speedo and works when the speedo cable goes backwards.
What Clara told me was that the clamps that attach the front number plate can be used to attach the reverse light to the over-riders in back without damaging the over-riders.
So what I need is a clamp/bracket that fits on the over-rider tube and can hold the reverse light. _________________ 63 singlecab

Have never seen a bracket like that, and from the other post you can see there is no way to fit either back up light to a bracket on the over rider.
Yes the speedo switch or the shifter rod mounted switch are the ones used before 1967. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Have you thought of making a bracket to mount the reverse light to the upper bolt in the upright of the bumper? That would keep from having to drill holes in the bumper parts and still look good. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Sam,
I know the type of bracket you are talking about. I guess it would work. I would wonder if it would not be too loose though. It's a round metal bracket with rubber covering to encircle the tube on the overrider. It will typically have two tabs hanging down that the bolt will go through to hold the license plate. _________________

That is a nice bracket...and my question on the diameter was answered with that photo before I posted it. Thanks. _________________

Sure if one wanted to, or to the left or right of the taillight, or under the over rider. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

You have any pics of that set-up? That sounds a little hokey to me.
I have a dealer installed reverse light and they drilled through the bumper. I think of all the options it looks the best. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Reverse light installed with the kind of clamp used for the front liscense plate:
Reverse light installed with the a 67 beetle reverse light bracket, which I 'massaged' (ie bent with a vise and hammer) into the shape to bolt it to an existing bumper bolt:
bolted to aftermarket bumper:
bolted to bumper, lens painted red for a fog log:
When you hook up reverse light with the nose cone sender stock wise, run a black wire from the coil 15 to the sender.
It goes through an inline fuse holder, with the hard to find clip holding to the fan shroud
