when i do mine i try to get the cover on and a couple bolts started before i jack it up, also i wrap a chain around the shock tower and floor jack to keep the car from lifting up. _________________ My build:

A lot of folks start the covers with longe bolts, and then swap the long ones out once cover is drawn up tight _________________ 2006 RAM 1500 HEMI 4X4 92 LT250

i also have a set of old cover i thought about puting over it and hammering with a mallet to see if it will make it slide over...... not sure if thats a good idea or not. im going to trythe pipe idea and then go get some long stainless steel bolts and see if i can pull it over. im just worried about breaking a bolt off.... these things are a pain im going to try to never take them off again haha |

if you get the longer bolts(i've never used stainless), and bolt the cover with as many as you can with the spring plate unloaded(no pressure on it) then load it or put it in place and as your doing that tighten the bolts you can a little bit at a time. then put the others in, you may have to pry the cover around a little bit with a small prybar to get the other holes to line up. it is a pain but i'm done this several times with stock bolts. I guess it's just one of those things the more you do it the easier it gets. good luck.
Oh!! make sure that your bolts don't go in crooked, i've done that once, it really sucks to have to try to get it out and retap your threads. _________________ My build:

Here's what I did:
1) Use a little white lithium grease on the splines and the bushings (urethane?) so everything slides in and out easy
2) Assemble it all, using longer bolts on the spring plate cover so you can get the started
3) Using the jack and chain, crank the spring plate up so it is above the stop, and start the last bolt
4) Get a big ass C clamp, with one pad on the outside of the spring plate and the other on the inside of the upper shock/ body mount
5) Crank down that C clam until it pulls the spring plate and bushings the rest of the way together
6) Tighten down your spring plate cover, and remove the clamp.
7) Repeat for the other side.
Voila, you're done! _________________ It's mine now and I want a BAJA!!! |

still having problems i have tried all of those tricks but im still about 1/4 inch from being completely over the stop........ it seems like my inner bushing is so thick that it wont let my spring plate fully slide in....... maybe im wrong i got the urathane ones from bugpack. also i havent connected the end of the spring plate to the axle yet will that pull it that last 1/4 inch????? yall make these spring plates sound easy and i swear after this i am never taking them off again they are giving me way to many problems haha |

I had a similar problem. I did the driver side first and was easy. When I tried to do the passenger side I couldn’t get the cover on without bending it. It was about 1/4-3/8 away and the other side just slid in. I found out I had the driver side torsion bar in too far, not allowing the passenger side bar to go in enough, stopping the cover from going on all the way. |

BTW I have done it so many times I can do both sides in about an hour.
I have to loosen my newer buggy up one notch. I might video tape how to do it because this gets asked so many times. |

a video would be great! to me the problem would be solved if the urathane bushing were a tiny bit thinner.....
i have the covers all the way on but it seems like the spring plate is in place at the cover but bending out so that at the stop its not quite over it. still about 1/4 inch out of the stop |

Reading all of this makes me really glad that I went with new 27mm bars. It all bolts up with NO hassles, although I have a good sized notch on 1 side of the dual spring plates for use with type 4 cv's. I just have to put the floor jack under the plate and lift a little against the weight of the car, no chain. _________________ (ignore the X's ) |

next time i do mine, I'll show you , i'll take pics step by step. I'm still in the dark ages, no video camera. hopefully it will help you. , actually I have a swingaxle pan out front i can do and show with that(will be easier with no car attatched.) Won't be able to get to it until the new year though hope that;s not an issue. later _________________ My build:

so i lowered it one spline and i tried and i think it finally slid over the stop pretty good. its right on the line of the stop but thats better than it was. only problem is i cant get the cover to go all the way on..... it wont godown in the middle. the corners where the bolts are will touch flat but not the middle. its warping or bending out. like i keep saying these bushings are just too big if they were smaller it seems like these peices would fit better together |

Yeah, a video on the whole process of lifting the rear end this way would be awesome. _________________ "Keep up the good work. You used the term craftsmanship. Don't you mean "craftsman$#&*?" "
