I really like the way it looks now. If it was me, I'd lower it and do a cal look thing. Maybe 2ltr fuchs and t bars... oh yeah. Also I'd do OG tin, chrome is kinda overkill.

cal-look's okay, but I'm sort of odd in the fact that I like jap. ricers(nice ones) and vw bugs at the same time, and so I'm thinking something along the lines of...

Enkei 16x6.5in mesh rims (silver & black), or something else racey
full repaint to red
powder coat engine compartment black
red fan shroud
get rid of chrome eng. tin
alloy running boards
lowered 2in. all around
eventually a disk brake comversion
black/silver interior
turbo charger

Bleh. In an early model I think that look will fail. It sounds like a super beetle is more your cup of tea, look at german lookers.

honestly, you might be right. ah, well. for right now at least, I'm gonna keep improving this one, and maybe eventually trade for a super.

^ strike that. I'd never trade for a super. As VW's go, honestly I think this is my favorite year/model (with other choices being a '68 beetle or a 71 fastback)

by the time I may eventually sell this car, it'll probably be worth nowhere near what I'm gonna put into it but you know what,
I'm gonna to modify this bug to my tastes, keep it for a long long time, and not really care what anyone else thinks about it!!! Very Happy

(no offense leviman)

Take a look at some "German look" cars for inspiration. It seems that is the direction you are going and I have seen quite a few that are really bitchin'. But live with the color for a while. Our 61 Beryl Green Cal look was hideous (in my opinion) when we first bought the car, but after the tires/wheels and stance change, I absolutely love it.

Nice '66. I wish my '66 looked half as good as yours. Its your car so modify it as you like. I am sure there will be things I will do to mine that will upset others too. Just have fun. By the way, looking at your front turn signal mounting locations, your '66 seems to suffer the same mismatch of earlier and later front fenders that mine does. Your left front fender is the earlier one. My VW is staying that way. Enjoy yours, whatever direction you go.

^^curses! someone finally noticed that. a well, I'm thinking about shaving the turn signals anyway, moving them to the horn grill location.

Er... where? Also, whatever float's your boat, german look is pretty cool too. As long as there's not a lot of cutting involved, I don't mind.

I'm hopefully getting a hardship license in a few days so I can drive the bug to and from school at least. I applied last week, but when I went in for the driving test, apparently you're required to have seatbelts and both bumpers Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

well now I have those, so I'm taking the test sometime soon.

fwiw my '66 also has mismatched fenders and for the time being I'm leaving mine as-is.

Yes I saw that on the other thread. I just replaced the clutch on mine as well a couple weeks ago.

well I should be getting my beetle back in a few days.

It turns out that when the clutch rod cracked, it also damaged several other parts, and my clutch discs were at 25% gone. so those are being replaced too.

also installing new tar-board insulation on the fire wall, as my PO decided it would be cooler to stick cut up pieces of side trim to the fire wall for dress-up. I can't believe none of those pieces ever got sucked into the fan. Shocked

I haven't updated in awhile, but yeah, I got the bug back about a month ago, and everything's perfect, as of now...

I will be getting my license in two months, and then the bug will be a daily driver. then we'll see what will happen, because it hasn't been a daily driver in probably 4 years.

I can't wait.
