The number sounds like an H5 from August of '67, so an early '68 T1 chassis would be my guess. That would then make it a 1500 from the factory, but I seem to observe most 1500s getting rebuilt into 1600s somewhere in the last 47 years. No bay bus ever came with a 1500, to my knowledge, and not many T1 engines in buses are still original.

H5 is a 68-69 1500 from a beetle, unless it's a one owner bus with every document since new and less than 20K miles the odds of it having it's OG motor are extremely slim, wrecking yards were piled high with beetles and if the original engine got sick a replacement was easier to find than fixing the OG one. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'm pretty sure the 1600 SP was one of the new "perks" of the 68 model, so highly doubt the 1500 is original. I think busdaddy nailed it.
Edit: the link that Tcash posted is the nail in the coffin. _________________ 1968 Deluxe "Clipper L" Type 2
