there's no reason to think you'll gain HP by putting those carbs on the engine. you might gain, you might lose. if you do nothing to the exhaust, you will almost certainly not gain much, if anything. stock is something like 67HP. _________________ SL |

What I was wondering is will I gain a lot of acceleration. I have a 2 barrel progressive carburetor right now, and i have purchased a DUAL 44HPMX EMPI CARB KIT, and also a 2 into 1 exhaust.

I haven't built a motor with those so I have nothing more than instinct to go on. The L-Jet peaks at 4500 RPM as the injector pulse becomes longer than the time between revolutions at that speed so the engine goes lean past 4500 RPM by design. The stock L-jet has a fairly restrictive exhaust from the ports to the exhaust pipe. This improved smog emissions.
I think a set of dual carbs, a mild cam grind, some porting and a 72-74 exhaust would give you a more top end which would give you more peak HP but you would have to wind the engine into higher RPM's to get it so I am not sure it would be worth it.
You might want to PM Jake as he has done all the testing. _________________ "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it." - George Carlin |

The stock VW 2000cc motor has small valves, a very mild cam and low Compression Ratio.
Putting 44's on it will be a improvement over a single progressive but not more HP. I'd run the 40's as I have run those before and they work good but I prefer the Ljet FI as it gives you more low end torque.
Change the valve size to 42x36's, CR to 8 to1, and a better carb grind cam and you will have around 100hp. That's not neck snapping but a big improvement. _________________ 70 Ghia Black convert-9/69 build date-stock w/133k 1600 SP-barn find now with a rebuilt tranny and engine
