You can get those Chevy adapters almost everywhere these days for short money.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?...ton=Search

Any parts house or Auto Supply like Auto Zone and the like can get you replacement wheel studs. Press out the old ones, press in the new.

New drums (for a Type 3) drilled for the Chevy pattern will be expensive for a four lug drums and non-existent in a wide five drum.

New drums drill for match to wheels would be best solution.... Next would be new wheel adapters..... Last you can get new studs to put in damaged adapters (maybe).... Studs should be available under at least the DORMAN brand name and the is maybe 200 styles to choose from and be available at any quality auto parts (NAPA?)...

The catalog listed below has more studs, lug nuts, wheel bolts than you ever knew existed.... Start search around SECTION 10...

dormanproducts.com/catalog/2006_hardware.htm

Or take stud from damaged adapter to auto parts and lay it on counter and cry and whimper like a baby and maybe they can help you.... If your adapters are steel and studs pressed in, and new one do not press in properly(loose) abandon the old adapters.... If the press in is good, a tack weld on head of studs may be cheap insurance....

Are the 2 studs on each side, the studs that go from the drum to the adapter or from the adapter to the wheel? What is the diameter and length of the shank of the stud you need? You can buy new studs at your local auto supply store if you know the size.

I don't believe you can buy blank type 3 drums. The 4 3/4" pattern would put the stud in the inner web area, so they can't be redrilled. Best and probably cheapest solution is to find a 205/5 lug pattern wheel and dump the adapters.

I had the same problem last year , my solution was to drill the drums myself, as my local machine shops didn't want to do it . If you've got a drill press it's fairly simple, as long as you're going from VW 4 to chevy 5. Like someone else said , don' think you can do it on wide 5. I also don't think I would do it on the front drums. The type 3 rear drums have the splined spindle that the drum attaches to so there's plenty of meat there to drill & tap for studs .

This is a pre-66 Type 3 rear drum. A circle with a 2 3/8 radius would put the wheel stud in the uneven webbed area where the wheel wouldn't sit flat.

im liking the drill press idea and tapping, my main concern in fact is the stud that goes from drum to adapter one is broke and the other is trash. is it just a double threaded stud ? i doubt i could get a stud that on one side is vw and another on the other side you guys got any idea on what it is? and i have later type 3 drums their flat on the outside.

You may struggle to match the existing studs as they're not off any regular car so a parts guy just wouldn't know where to start looking. I'd just but new adapters as they're inexpensive and easily available.

Blank T3 drums and hubs don't exist and re-drilling ols ones won't be that easy as one of the new stud holes will end up halfway thru one of the old holes no matter where you drill them.

You can get stepped studs everywhere, 14mm to 0.5 inch is common.

All you gotta do is stop typing and get off of your ass and hit a quality auto parts store. Bring the adapter with you along with a drum and ask you questions THERE ! ! A lot of auto supply houses have machining services available or an outside machinist that they'll recommend. It's simple stuff that you're asking about.

Are you running wide fives in the rear or four lug drums? That's gonna make a big difference. Adapters are dirt cheep these days, just buy one . . . or trash the Chevy rim idea and run VW, a MUCH better idea than everything else that you're suggesting. If you're using the Chevy's just 'cause you have them . . . well . . . sell them.

OK, baby steps then.

Again . . . four lug or five lug rear drums . . . ?

Are the drum bolt holes damaged or the adapters?

Are the adapters stripped or are the studs damaged?

Are the studs missing or loose or stripped or bent?

Do you have a photo of the damage?

Please take some time and describe EXACTLY what is damaged and in what way. If you want some help, you have to describe things MUCH better, otherwise you'll just get opinions on what others prefer rather than advice on how to repair or replace what you have.

i said their later type 3 i just assumed everyody knew they were 4 lug as it was discussed that you could not drill 5 lug vw drums due to the webbed area and i said i like the drilling idea. but ill say their 4lug, the adapters are fine the stud had been exposed to some years of weather and are TRASH there is only 2 good studs on each adapter on each side the adapters are fine. on the driver side the stud that goes from the drum to the adapter is snapped(ugh) the rest are junk. the drums are fine, the lugs that go to the drums are fine, its only the threads on the studs that pertrude from the adapters that are TRASH.

all im trying to do is to save my broke ass some money! if its going to be such a damn hassle ill just buy new ones

Tough to redrill a 4 bolt T-3 hub for other bolt patterns.
The T-3 4 bolt drum is a 2 piece drum. (Drum and hub) The center hub is not much bigger than the 4 bolt pattern.

The VERY best way to save money is to ask me if I have a pair that I'm not using. I'll say, "Why yes, I do indeed have a pair." Then you send me an email or a PM with your address and I'll ship the pair of adapters off to you in about four days or so, and you'll owe me a hamburger at the next VW show that we're all at together.
