|
|
I have my column disassembled and I feel like there are parts missing. I have a 72 colum and a grant wheel and adapter kit.
Does the steering shaft at the steering box end just float inside the column?or should there be a bushing in there. I know the supers have bearing at that end.
Also.. Is there a bushing that goes on steeringn shaft before the switch assembly. the only thing inside the switch assembly now is the bearing?
And final question, there was a small peice that feel out of the column when I took it apart... I didn't see where it can from until it hit the ground... anyone know what this is from?

My guess is that is the piece that the ground wire slips on for the horn wiring.
It looks like it broke off.
They are usually on the end of the outer column where there is no bearing.
I could be wrong tho....

| I have 2 other columns, but from super beetles... I took them apart but cannot see a similar part. I've yet to actually remove the switch assemblies... I just removed the steering shaft. |

Bushings - there is no bushing at the steering box end, the connection at the steering box supports that end of the column so the column floats in that end of the outer housing.
At the steering wheel end, there is a bushing that fits in between the inner column and bearing. It's a sleeve bushing that takes up the small amount of space. I thought is was plastic but I also see a metal version at the Cip1 site.
This looks like the part here:

| ok... perfect... I have that small bearing bushing. I just got worried because the super columns have more bushings and bearings. Now I just have to figure out where that small metal peice came from..Is there a way to test the switches with a multimeter to make sure they're functional? |
