I would think 2:
1 for the ignition.
1 for the Drivers door, cargo door, and engine lid
Is this correct? I have heard others say the cargo doors had their own key but that seem silly. |

that's what mine has, but it's a truck I think you are correct though, one ignition key and the other key for all the doors. |

Yes*.
Key 2: Early BD should have the 'Volcano' key, late BD should have the 'Lotus Leaf' key*. the 'Cutout VW' key came with replacement handles*.
*All IMO. _________________ -StockRocks- |

Yes, 2.
In my opinion, anyone that thinks the cargo door had its own key could have a replacement cargo door handle, especially if it has a VW cut-out key. _________________ How to Post Photos

Sorry to wake the dead but…
I get for my 6/52 bus a volcano key is correct for the door locks (key 2).
But what was the correct key design/logo for the ignition (key 1)? And would that ignition be ‘A profile’ or something else in a 6/52 bus?
Cheers. _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

In another thread someone did a key breakdown of Beetle and Bus and it says:
Quote: |
Barndoor Bus:
1952 - February 28, 1954:
Ignition = P profile key (Number stamped on ignition cylinder face),
Door Handle = E,Z,D,V,F profile (4 tumblers)
March 1, 1954 - February 28, 1955:
Ignition = P profile key (Number stamped on ignition cylinder face),
Door handle = E,Z,D,V,F profile (5+1 tumblers) |
So the normal P-code style key sounds correct.
The Huf key seen here

Thanks Everett
Is there any pattern to which shape ‘P’ keys went with which year/models?
HUF "p" key, no VW logo, but HUF logo both sides.
HUF " p" key, same shape, with VW logo.
Round head " p" key, with VW logo. _________________ 1951 Samba 20-017894

I'm not sure but I can report that all 3 of the 1954-55 Barndoors I've owned had the original ignition key and all had a Huf key with no VW logo.
I'm not sure about the Huf with VW logo but I know Oval Convertible Beetles used a P key for the glovebox so that is another possibility for that style of key. _________________ How to Post Photos
