I have been working on my 67 beetle for a couple of years. It is posted for sale here, but no hits. I started out wanting to go full resto, but recently I am starting to see it differently. I feel I would like to possibly keep it and go volksrod style with it. Hopefully I can accomplish this by selling the parts I shed off. i.e. spare hood, 2 67 decklids, fenders, etc. That brings me to this step. I hope to remove the rear clip as I have seen on another VW. I will be going with a 63 DL, and want to get rid of the area around and behind the engine. Where should I cut in order to ensure that my vehicle remains functional, but that the removed section can be used as a replacement by someone else? Thanks in advance. |

Nice. So I should keep the front bumper? It's an almost complete 67 with a truckload of spare parts, and it hasn't sold at $2700. Obviously it's not that valuable, so I guess it's ok to start hacking it up. A forum member here has a 68 rod that he was interested in trading me, but he changed his mind and I kind of like the style of his. I figure if I sell off some of the 67-only parts and other stuff I can afford the extended front beam and maybe some rims. |

there is no clear cut instruction manual when it comes to these types of builds. It usually starts off as an idea of the builder....and you build or cut as you go. That is why most are what the owner likes, sometimes not many others...and usually hard to sell. If you have an idea of what you want....its up to you to build it. If you don't feel your skills are up to it....I think you better look for a different project. _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)

I feel comfortable with every aspect except for modifying my own beam. I'll leave that to the pros. I want to remove the rear apron and side firewalls, but I feel I should cut and remove as one piece, so I can sell the rear section if someone needs a repair section for their 67. Originally I felt that I did not want to cut it up. That's why i put it up for sale. I was going to take the money and buy a 70's model to hack up. But the 67 is what is still sitting in the front yard and warm weather approaches. I know that with the $2700 I am selling it for, I could afford a later model and enough early parts to give it the look I want. My bus is stock and complete, and that's enough for me. Now I'm ready for something a little different. I see tons of rear clips for sale at shows and they all look to be cut about the same, so I was hoping someone on here could tell me where the clips are usually cut off, so that I don't ruin the clip for the next person. |

I trimmed the rear apron on mine so it would still seal to keep the hot air out of the engine compartment. Search for apron cut on volksrods.com. Im on there as Timbo.

If you are trying to think of someone buying the clip....just remember, more is better.... _________________ 58 Beetle (now just a pile of parts in the corner)
