I had a leaking clutch master cylinder a couple weeks ago so I changed that out and bled the system with my brand new power bleeder, keeping it at no more than 5-6 psi. Now I can hear the fluid gurgling in the reservoir when I press on the brakes and it's leaking somewhere, I just can't find it. I'm losing fluid quicker now than before I changed the CMC. The slave cylinder is dry, so it's not there (I was going to change that this morning). There's no fluid on any of the wheels that I can see, and the rear cylinders were replaced last year (according to the PO and receipt). Where should I look? _________________ '67 Micro Bus

The CMC receives fluid at a higher point than the brakes so that it will suck air before your brakes if you are losing fluid. This will give you the illusion that it was your CMC and your BMC. Your BMC could be losing fluid out the front into your brake booster and sucked into your engine. Time to troubleshoot the booster-BMC. There are lots of threads here for that problem. Do a search.

Also check under the steering area; the carpet and the steering shaft it can leak on to there and run down under the little rubber boot |

Check your brake booster too as a potential culprit. You will hear a gurguling sound when you step on the brakes. |

To close this thread out I changed the master cylinder and flushed the whole system. All better, and the best braking it's ever had while in my possession. Nice.
Thanks to those who helped. _________________ '67 Micro Bus

Good work - I am glad to see you were able to resolve the missing fluid issue. It always feels good when the job is finally done and the experience and satisfaction you've gained in the process. |
