|
|
As the title states, I would like to put 58-67 Rear fenders onto a 72 super I’m restoring. Are there any differences in the fender besides the tail lights? Any help is appreciated.
Anyone have any pics of what this looks like? I assume others have done this before.
Thanks |

The rear fenders well bolt up the problem well be the bumper slots, you would be beter off using the 68-72 fenders and putting the erlyer lights on |

Yeah you can put rear fenders on there but not front ones in case you were wondering. Like the previous poster said the bumper slots won't match up, but you can modify them or modify the mounts. _________________ 74 Super Beetle w/1500SP - project.

Hey its your car do what you want. But with all the hate pointed towards supers (which have superior handling) why would you want to put ugly early fenders on? Embrace your fatness _________________ 73 Westy auto "Rotten Loaf" |

Thanks, I was considering putting 49-67 bumpers on as well. Do you still think this would be an issue? I'm not sure how it would look with the hood though. |

nothing is impossible with patience, time, money.....cutting and welding skills go a long way as well.
If you doubt the above, take a look at the Abortions thread in the Reader's Rides forum.
Just because some bracket does not line up does not mean you can not fabricate one to make it work.... _________________ -—--------—-------

Thanks, I was only considering putting rears on. But now you have me curious, why won’t earlier front fenders work? I would expect to have the same bumper bracket issue and the obvious blinker and headlight problem. But aside from those factors I would expect them to match up too. What have I overlooked? |

Me I don't think the early bumpers look good on the supers, but if that's what you wont to do there are adapter bumper brackets that allow you to put early bumpers on without A bunch of mods |

Thanks,
I agree. I'm not concerned with the brackets more so the width of the fender. I didn't want to get involved with tire issues, widening, etc. The owner doesn’t want to go too crazy. |

Do you have any pics of Supers with earlier bumpers fenders? I haven't seen one, so I'm not sure if my vision is truly a very bad idea. |

I don't have a pic handy, but I've seen early bumpers on supers. I've only seen one that looked okay. I think the biggest problem when people try to older bumpers on any 68-up beetle is that they don't consider that the earlier bumpers were mounted lower on the car.
Also, the curve of the front of a super looks different than a standard. I think that early bumpers on the front would look odd because of it. |

The front ones won't work cause the super beetle ones are bulbous to accommodate the strut suspension. The earlier ones aren't bulbous and are kinda slanted cause of the older headlights.
You can prolly tell the difference from those pics. IMO, the older ones look more like an insect than the new ones lol _________________ 74 Super Beetle w/1500SP - project.
