So I'm installing a USB/ cigarette lighter power pod in the rear ashtray spot of my Vanagon. I'm working it to an aux battery, but I'm wondering if I should cut out the insulation behind it or leave it?

I'd be inclined to want to leave the insulation. But, will all that even fit inside even if you removed the insulation? And if you did remove it, is there a possibility of shorting it out if it touched the body? Or is it so close it could arc to the body? And would that leave a blemish on the outside? You do you. But I say put a folding cupholder there and mount the power pod on the side of the stove, above the bins, replacing the fridge grill with a GoWesty grill already made for that. Just my 2 cents.

Leave it. Fiberglass doesn't conduct electricity, in fact, it's one of the best insulators around.
