I don't know if this is worth making a thread over, but I'm making some great progress on a Wolfsburg 56 Kombi that I picked up in fall 2010. It wasn't driving at the time due to a tranny issue but had a rebuilt motor and was a pretty dry bus. Here are some photos of the progress thus far. I'm working on it quite a bit lately to have it ready for spring so I will update this pretty regularly. |

Easy Off, Scotch pad and 2 hours got me down to this. Easy Off works great, a little slow, but that is probably better so it doesn't go after the OG paint as bad. The only issues are the corners and tight spots that you really need to go slow at so you don't get past the OG paint. |

Went back with a stock exhaust...runs much quieter and heat is working great in these 8 degree temps. I wanted to put the rear bumper back on and the aftermarket exhaust didn't allow for it. Looks a ton better with the exhaust all tucked away and OG bumper back on. Working on getting all of that aftermarket paint off this winter...BIG project when it's cold. Dove blue paint underneath looks amazing though. |

Found a new trick today for working in the cold weather. I put a kerosene heater inside the bus and it heated the roof up a little over 100 degrees. Add Easy Off...scrape...wipe clean. This section took me only 30 minutes. I'm thinking I'm going to start using a heat gun as well. |

So I somehow poked a small hole in the rubber gloves I was using to strip the paint off the 56. Some Easy Off got in there and got on my thumb. I'm guessing it was on there for 15-20 minutes. I couldn't really feel it burning too much, mostly because my hands were freezing anyways. When I pulled my hand out of the glove this is what I found. It's not a stain. It soaked through my nail and into the tip of my thumb...pretty nasty chemical burn. Make sure not to get this stuff on you for too long...I'm hoping I don't lose my thumb |

Got the first layer of paint done today on the front bumper...I will go back and add the white a bit later but wanted to see what it looked like after having it media blasted and straightened...The paint looks a little dark compared to the body right now because we based the paint off of the gas door after it was cleaned up and polished. Right now the rest of the bus is covered in dust from sanding out all of the bondo from lower part of the nose.
There was hardly any damage to the nose, but I used a stud welder and hammer pull to straighten it up a bit more. Looking pretty good for for now. I'm going to prime and blend a bit of the blue in soon on the body...just need a strong heater to keep the paint warm enough to cure properly.
PM me if you have any suggestions |

back end done with decklid back in...That rear bumper is sticking out pretty bad now. I need to get it straightened. Not sure if Mark Rafferty is still doing that?

I think I have around 70 hours into this project. About 25 cans of Easy Off and a couple dozen Scotch Pads. Paint turned out great. I have the windows all done with new seals going in in the next couple days. I'm going to blend those few primer spot eventually, but at least there is no more yellow paint to strip!
