|
|
I currently have wide fives drums all around but want to switch to a 4 lug. What year drums will fit on the front and back? Will I need different bearings for the front because I just got a set to use with drop spindles.
Thanks in advance to all that replies.... _________________ Banging on all four cylinders.... |

A sixty eight drum will fit. The snout on the rear drums will be too long and you will have to cut or machine it down to fit. The axles are different between 67 and 68. If you look at pictures you will see the the snout is much longer on a 68 compared to 67. _________________ -OstKüste-

You will also have to change to 68 wheel cylinders in the rear. The 67s fit deeper in the brake plate and angle the brake shoes to where they will lock the drum. The good news is though, the front wheel cylinders are the same.
For the bearings, the outboard in the front will work off your 67, but you will need a 68 inboard and 68 tie rod ends. Bearings for the rear, I don't know. _________________ 67 Type 1 : Driving Project born Sep 66

Is 68 drums the only year that will work? I looked on cip1 website and theirs ran from 66-77 for the front. I have a set from a 74' and wheel cylinders from a 74'. I already have the later tie rods and bearings for the front from when I installed drop spindles. _________________ Banging on all four cylinders.... |

66 and 67 are five lug drums. 68 and later are four. _________________ -OstKüste-

Thats what I thought, just didnt know why cip1 had 66-67 years listed. So does that mean my 74' drums would work and the rear wheel cylinders would work? _________________ Banging on all four cylinders.... |

So would it be safe to say that a 68 and up drum would work all around?
I was also told that there is a long and a short stub axle/drum snout? How do i check for this?
Thanks...[/GVideo] _________________ Banging on all four cylinders.... |

Yes, the rear drums will have to be machined for the short stub axle, I believe it is 5/8 of inch needs to be shaved off the outer spline area of the drum. |

@ Scumerset...Was wondering what you were refering to when you said to angle the brake to lock? _________________ Banging on all four cylinders.... |
